You gotta get behind the mule…the Gov't Mule, that is! A former Allman Brothers side project, the bureaucratic donkey-horse is widely acclaimed for their viscerally riveting live performances that include original, soulfully slow and heavy blues power-trio compositions and passionately crafted epic covers of some of rock n’ roll and the blues’ most legendary songs. Some of their most lauded live remakes include Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs”, Robert Johnson’s “32/20 Blues”, Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”, and Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s “Cortez the Killer”.
After Gov’t Mule’s co-founder and original bassist, Allen Woody’s death in 2000, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Warren Haynes and drummer Matt Abts performed tribute concerts and recorded two “Woody” tribute albums, The Deep End, Volume 1 (2001) and The Deep End, Volume 2 (2002) that featured some of rock’s most talented and renowned bassists, including Mike Gordon, John Entwistle, Mike Watt, Jack Bruce, Les Claypool, Chris Squire, and Flea. They eventually added bassist Andy Hess (formerly of the Black Crowes) and keyboardist Danny Louis to their regular touring and recording lineup.
A staple performer at several U.S. music festivals, including Tennessee’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Warren Haynes’ jam-heavy southern rock style recalls influences that include Cream-era Clapton, Hendrix, and of course the late, great Duane Allman. Other Gov’t Mule studio albums include their self-titled 1995 album, Dose (1998), Life Before Insanity (2000), Deja Voodoo (2004), and High & Mighty (2006).
Don’t miss your chance to see one of rock’s greatest live acts, Gov't Mule, perform LIVE at the Barrymore!
